The name "BOMBS" does not suggest militarism nor violence. Rather, it is an acronym for Betting On My Black Self, founded in 2023 as a response to the gatekeeping specific to the Big Five publishers. BOMBS Publishing is a Black, woman-owned and operated press dedicated to supporting other Black women writers who need a publisher to "bet on" them and their creative works. In the spirit of Audre Lorde's Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press (1980), Alice Walker's Wild Flower Press (1984), and Alexis De Veaux's Diva Enterprises (1980), BOMBS Publishing positions itself as a contributor to the Black literary tradition and celebrates the voices of Black women writers.
At BOMBS Publishing, we strive to create a freely creative space for Black women writers—especially those who are first-time poets, creative non-fiction authors, and children's book writers. Our mission is to produce literary works that intentionally respond to the social uplift and critical consciousness of Black people, while nurturing a community of Black women writers whose contributions expand the literary landscape.
we be theorizin keeps alive the 1960s Black Arts Movement with tankas, sonnets, and spoken word poems written in a Black English, hip-hop blues funk celebrating and detailing Black life unexpected. Organized into three sections that each include a prose essay, we be theorizin affirms Black folks' intellectual grit and divine spirit.
