BOMBS Publishing is an independent, non-profit press for the radical Black woman writer composing to advance Black people.
The name "BOMBS" does not infer militarism nor violence. Instead, it is an acronym for Betting On My Black Self, which was conceived in 2023 after the founder--having received multiple rejections from publishers regarding her own poetry manuscripts--decided to organize her own independent press. BOMBS Publishing, therefore, is a Black, lesbian, woman-owned and run press for other Black women writers who need a publisher to "bet on" them and their creative works. Mirroring Audre Lorde, et al.'s Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press (1980); Alice Walker's Wild Flower Press (1984); and Alexis De Veaux's Diva Enterprises (1980), BOMBS situates itself as a major contributor to the Black literary canon.
At BOMBS Publishing, we aim to provide a radical space for Black women writers--primarily first time poets, creative non-fiction, and children's books writers. We aim to produce literary works that intentionally respond to the social uplift and critical consciousness of Black people, while fostering an author community whose members compliment, while countering traditional publishing.
